SHOAL HARBOUR CAUSEWAY

This vital connection between Clarenville and Shoal Harbour was completed and reopened in December 2023.

Voyent Alert Communications System

Implemented to inform residents on day-to-day issues such as water main breaks, road closures, and more, this new communications system supplements our social media communication tools; as social media is only one method and is not used by all residents. This alert system is free of charge and can be set up on your home phone, cell phone, iPad, computer, etc.

Promoted Economic Development

Under John’s first-term initiatives, the new position of Economic Development Officer was created alongside the establishment of a corresponding Economic Development Committee.

• Completed a 5-year Strategic Plan
• Established Clarenville Coasts Tourism Committee
• Completed Housing Needs Assessment

Clarenville Wellness Centre

Completed Preliminary Studies on Wellness Centre with a Swimming Pool and Daycare Centre in conjunction with the YMCA. LEARN MORE about my plan to continue work on this facility next term.

Roadway Infrastructure Improvements

Through John’s efforts with support of the Council, our town completed over $10 million in road work with funding from both the Federal and Provinical Governments.

provincially and federally recognized as a model age-friendly community

We continue to create accessibility, programs, and services for people of any age that benefit all Clarenville residents and visitors, including families, children, older adults, those with disabilities, and new Canadians.
The Age-Friendly Business Committee designated 30 local businesses as “Age-Friendly”. As a result of this program, the parking lot at the Clarenville Shopping Centre as well as many other businesses now have parking spaces for expectant mothers/young families.
Funding was received from the Federal and Provincial Governments and a new CREST bus was purchased and put into service on April 1, 2025.

Automated Waste Collection

An Automated Waste Collection System was introduced in 2024 doing away with blankets and nets being used to cover garbage.

informational Town Signs

Installed in 2025, new informational signage now provides directions for visitors to our most commonly sought locations across Clarenville. A great addition for tourists and residents alike.
